Big Bangs for Spring Topics
Enchanted Forest went back in time to explore Dinosaurs. They investigated dinosaur poo to find out if the dinosaur who left it was a plant or a meat eater. The children hatched eggs and identified the types of dinosaurs. Joe hatched Mrs Hunt’s favourite dinosaur, Parasaurolophus.
“This dinosaur was a plant eater because I can see bits of plants in the poo!” Erin proudly stated.
Neverland had a fantastic morning creating shoe box habitats and mini biomes as part of their Big Bang for their learning “How does climate influence our lives?” The children discussed how different animals and plants have adapted to live in their environment and how some animals and plants are better suited to certain habitats.
Narnia’s enquiry question for science is “What happens if the temperature of a material is changed?” The children made oobleck! Oobleck is a suspension of corn starch and water that can behave like a solid or a liquid depending on how much pressure you apply. The children engaged in a discussion about the types of features it had for a solid and the features it had for a liquid. The children loved making it and enjoyed experimenting with it.
Hogwarts took part in a mountaineering workshop led by Simon, a mountaineer and explorer for their Big Bang for the topic “How did the mountains and rivers get here?” The children took part in quizzes and challenges throughout the day.
