On Tuesday 3rd December, the school welcomed the Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership. Children from Year 1 to 6 took part in workshops focusing on how to stay safe on the roads.
Year 1 learnt how to cross the road safely. The children told us that when crossing the road, we should use our eyes and ears to help us spot cars. Next, they created actions to stop, look, listen, and think, which are all the things we should be doing when we cross the road. Finally, they practised these skills outside on a zebra crossing.
Year 2 went for a walk around Caythorpe, where they practised crossing the road safely. The children were brilliant at looking and listening before crossing the road.
Narnia (Year 3 and 4) looked at risky behaviour, they started by going through scenarios about road safety and what would be safe behaviour. Next the children looked at pictures of road signs and road to identify which ones were safe and which ones were unsafe. Finally they recapped where and how to cross the road safely.
The children in Hogwarts class participated in an engaging helmet safety workshop designed to teach the importance of wearing helmets during various activities. The session began with a discussion about activities that require helmets, with a particular focus on cycling safety.
The children explored common misconceptions and myths surrounding helmet use, as well as ways to overcome the stigma that sometimes discourages children from wearing them.
To conclude the workshop, an exciting and memorable demonstration showed the life-saving difference a helmet can make. Using an egg as an example, the children witnessed first hand how a "helmet" can prevent breakage during impact—a visual and interactive way to reinforce the importance of helmet safety.
The workshop was not only educational but also fun, leaving a lasting impression on the importance of staying safe while enjoying their favourite activities.
