Attendance

Caythorpe Primary School believes that in order to facilitate teaching and learning, good attendance is essential. Pupils cannot achieve their full potential if they do not regularly attend school.

We understand that barriers to attendance are complex, and that some pupils find it harder than others to attend school; therefore, we will continue to prioritise cultivating a safe and supportive environment at school, as well as strong and trusting relationships with pupils and parents.

Please refer to our policy below which  has been updated accordinly with the DfE guidance "Working Togeter to Improve School Attendance" August 2024 and explains our attendance procedures fully..

The school’s attendance officer is Helen Hunt, and can be contacted via helen.hunt@caythorpe-cit.co.uk. Staff, parents and pupils will be expected to contact the attendance officer for queries or concerns about attendance.

Absence Procedures

A first day of absence contact system is in place where the office staff contact parents and ascertain the reasons for any absences, if not already known.

The attendance rate of any child causing concern will be investigated. If poor attendance is significant, parents will be contacted by letter asking them to meet  with a school representative to discuss the issue. If no improvement is secured the matter will be referred to the Local Authority Attendance Officer.

Term time absence

Holidays in term time can not be authorised.

Permission for term time absence will only be authorised if there is an exceptional circumstance. A request form must be submitted to the Headteacher via the school office with full details of the exceptional reasons why a child needs to be absent from school. The Headteacher will respond to all requests.
