Members of the school council were invited by Debbie Nicholls, the Armed Forces and Communications Officer for South Kesteven District Council, to take part in the Arnhem Tulip Memorial project.
We are delighted to have secured some of the first tulip bulbs to be planted in the UK as part of the developing worldwide Airborne Tulip Memorials project to grow maroon tulips at airborne forces related sites.
The children, accompanied by Mrs Hunt, the Reverend Sara Davies and Ian Chick, Regimental Sergeant Major from the Army Training Barracks in Grantham, helped to plant 80 bulbs in the churchyard of St. Vincent’s ready for them to bloom in 2024, the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem, where airborne troops displayed degrees of heroism still celebrated today, and, of course, commemorated within the church.
You can find out more about the project in the Facebook site for the Arnhem Tulip Memorials www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100086774284461
